Dear St. E’s parish family,
Many of you have been asking whether we would take up a special collection to help victims of the recent earthquake and hurricane in Haiti. The short answer is “yes – on Sunday, August 29.”
We have been trying to get in touch with our sister parish in Magagnosse to find out whether our brothers and sisters there had been affected by these recent calamities. We were finally able to confirm this week that they had been mercifully spared.
We will certainly continue to support our sister parish, but in response to the current crisis, and as encouraged by Cardinal Gregory and the entire U.S.C.C.B., we will take up a special collection this Sunday to help the ongoing relief efforts directed at the regions of Haiti most in need. To that end, we will forward all funds collected to Catholic Relief Services for Haiti relief.
Allow me to thank those of you who so generously support our sister parish, with special thanks to Fons Marcelis for his extraordinary efforts to maintain communication with them and help shepherd our ongoing support. Thanks, too, for your willingness to help the victims of the recent earthquake and hurricane.
With kind personal regards and deep gratitude for your generosity, I remain
Sincerely in Christ,
Msgr. Bill Parent
